Who is who? — George & Anne

Listen to the whole dialogue and decide who each statement is about: Anne, George, both of them, or nobody / not clear.

  • First, listen once without answering.
  • Then listen again and tick the correct person for each statement.
  • Some statements are about basic facts of the situation (Who paid? Who was hungry? Who made a proposal?), so you must really understand what is happening in the story.

1. Went to the play that evening.

2. Missed the beginning of the play and arrived late.

3. Thought the play was awful and wished they had gone to the musical instead.

4. Thought the play was marvellous.

5. Had not eaten since breakfast and said they couldn’t have sat through the play without eating something.

6. Actually had a large three-course meal before the play.

7. Paid for the meal.

8. Blamed the other person for the fact that they were late for the play.

9. Said the other person should have taken a tranquilliser before coming out.

10. Said that what they really needed was a straight answer to a question, not a tranquilliser.

11. Asked, for the last time, “Will you marry me?”

12. Answered the proposal with “I suppose so”, but complained about the timing.

13. Said they could have discussed their future instead of going to that “silly play”.
